Meet Lauren Book

Lauren Book is an advocate, educator, mother, and public servant working to lead Florida forward.

Lauren was born and raised in Broward County and realized her passion for education and political advocacy from an early age. She graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and subsequently pursued a Master’s Degree in Community Psychology from the University of Miami.

In 2007, she founded Lauren’s Kids, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing childhood sexual abuse through education programs, public awareness campaigns, and political advocacy. This mission is personal to Lauren, having suffered years of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse as a child committed by a trusted caregiver. As a survivor herself, Lauren has dedicated her life to being an advocate with a powerful voice and deep commitment to change, becoming an internationally recognized leader in the fight to stop childhood sexual abuse.

Since she was just 17 years old, Lauren has advocated for tougher laws to make sure repeat violent offenders are kept off the streets and away from their intended victims. To further that advocacy, Lauren decided to apply her energy, enthusiasm, and passion to public service as a legislator to further that advocacy.

In 2021, Lauren was selected by her colleagues/peers as Senate Democratic Leader. In this role, she guides the strategy for the Senate Minority and directs Senate Victory, the Florida Democratic Party’s campaign arm aiming to elect more Democrats to the Senate.

Lauren lives in Davie, FL with her husband, Blair, and their twin children.
