Lauren’s Priorities

Lauren has spent her career delivering real results for Florida families. Here is where she stands on the issues that matter most.

On the Issues

Protecting Our Children

Protecting children has been Lauren Book’s life’s work. As a survivor, advocate, mother, and former State Senator, Lauren has spent decades fighting to keep children safe and support survivors. In the Legislature, she passed more than two dozen laws focused on child protection and survivor advocacy — including ending the statute of limitations on child sexual abuse, enacting one of the nation’s toughest mandatory-reporting laws, and creating Child Safety Zones to help keep predators away from schools, parks, and places where children gather. Lauren believes every child deserves the chance to grow up safe and protected.

On the Issues

Defending Our Freedoms

Lauren has never backed down from standing up to Tallahassee insiders when fundamental freedoms and democratic rights were under attack. She fought to protect Floridians’ right to vote on Amendment 4, called out the intimidation of petition signers by state officials and law enforcement, and stood shoulder to shoulder with advocates defending reproductive freedom — even being arrested while protesting for women’s rights. Lauren believes elected leaders should answer to the people, not political power brokers or special interests, and she has built her career on holding those in power accountable.

On the Issues

Reforming Property Insurance

Florida families are being crushed by skyrocketing property insurance costs pricing families and seniors out of their homes. Lauren took on Florida’s insurance crisis head-on by filing legislation to provide rebates for homeowners struggling with rising premiums and pushing for greater transparency and accountability from the insurance industry. She fought to force Florida’s top insurance executives to answer directly to families paying the price for a broken system, because homeowners deserve relief — not excuses.

On the Issues

Reducing Housing Costs

Lauren made affordability a top priority during her time leading Senate Democrats, recognizing that too many Florida families are being priced out of the communities they love. She fought for policies focused on lowering housing costs and easing the financial burden on working families facing rising rents, mortgage payments, insurance premiums, and everyday expenses. Lauren believes Florida should be a place where young families can build a future, seniors can stay in their homes, and hardworking people can get ahead — not just get by.

On the Issues

Advocating for Seniors

Lauren understands that Florida seniors living on fixed incomes are feeling the pressure of rising costs every single day. She fought to lower prescription drug prices, reduce homeowners insurance costs for low-income seniors, and expand access to affordable health care for Florida’s most vulnerable residents. Lauren believes seniors who spent their lives working hard and contributing to their communities deserve security, dignity, and peace of mind — not constant financial stress.

On the Issues

Preventing Gun Violence

After the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Lauren helped lead the fight for Florida’s historic bipartisan gun safety law — the most significant gun violence prevention legislation in state history. She helped raise the minimum age to purchase a rifle to 21, ban bump stocks, and create Florida’s red-flag law to help keep guns out of dangerous hands. Lauren believes protecting children and keeping communities safe should never be political, and she remains committed to advancing common sense gun safety reforms that save lives.

On the Issues

Improving Our Education System

Lauren believes every child in Florida deserves a world-class public education, and every teacher deserves the respect, resources, and support to do their job well. She has fought to fully fund Florida’s public schools, raise teacher pay, and give classrooms the tools students need to succeed. Lauren has pushed back against the culture wars waged in our classrooms, standing against book bans and partisan political interference in curriculum. She believes decisions about our schools should be guided by educators, parents, and students, not Tallahassee politicians chasing headlines.
